Charlotte Knitting Guild Meeting, Tuesday, April 3rd @ 6:00 pm

April Program

Our April program will be “April Fools,” presented by you!

Bring in examples or stories of times that your knitting has ‘fooled’ you and we can all learn from your boo-boos and how you fixed them (or maybe threw the whole thing in the rubbish, who knows?).

Also, we’d like to share some light snacks and have a lively social hour this month, so if you can buy or whip something up to bring along, please do. We should have some paper plates and cups and so forth, and we’re certainly not looking for anything heavy, expensive or complex!

Excellence in Knitting

Don’t forget about the Excellence in Knitting program this spring. Think about what you’ve made in the past year that you could submit. We’d love to see a submission from everyone!

Guild Business

We are losing our meeting space!
After a long and excellent relationship with Providence Baptist Church, they, unfortunately, will no longer be able to host our meetings. We have already started searching for new space, so if you have solid leads on meeting facilities, contact any board member to discuss your idea. We think that we have some viable options, but we’d hate to overlook any leads.

Board Elections
Want Charlotte to have the best-possible knitting guild? Then join the board and serve! Share your talents as vice-president, treasurer, secretary, membership/marketing coordinator, special event coordinator or charity coordinator. Board meetings are minimal. We typically conduct a lot of business by email. We particularly need energetic, creative and organized individuals. Shape the guild into being the group you want!

We will announce a new slate of board officers in later in the spring and vote the following month. If you are interested in learning more, talk with any of the current or former board members for more insight into what involvement looks like.

Directions and Meeting Info

We meet the first Tuesday night of every month at Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Rd, 28211 from 6 – 8 pm The first half hour is knitting and socializing, the remainder of the time is dedicated to learning new things. If you have completed a project since the last meeting, consider bringing the finished object with you for show-and-tell!

Managing Your Subscription

If someone forwarded this information in an email to you and you’d like to subscribe, you can manage that on this page: http://charlotteknittingguild.org/mail/?p=subscribe

In addition, the links to subscribe or unsubscribe should be in the footer area of each newsletter.

Charlotte Knitting Guild Meeting, Tuesday, March 3rd @ 6:00 pm

March Program

Our March program will be on crocheted edgings for our knits, presented by Jenny Raymond.

Jenny Raymond of zJonquil Designs teaches knitting & crochet at Yarnhouse in Charlotte and regional shows. Her husband and 3 clones have been trying not to get stabbed since she began knitting in 2004 and crocheting in 2008.

Homework/supplies (Optional): bring in a standard 4″ slipped-stitch-edged swatch with extra yarn and appropriate hook for playing with ideas.

Jenny will be bringing several books with crochet edgings to pass around/discuss, discussing various applications and techniques, and helping those who do not crochet understand some of the very basics (time permitting).

Excellence in Knitting

We will be holding the Excellence in Knitting program again this spring. We should have an outline of rules and target dates at this meeting. We’ll follow-up with an email for those who can’t be at the meeting.

Jon RiisAbout Jon Eric Riis
Considered by many to be the nation’s leading contemporary tapestry artist, Jon Eric Riis has perhaps more than any other artist taken the ancient craft of hand-woven tapestry to the level of important contemporary fine art. Often imbuing his subject matter with highly critical social and cultural ideas, Riis’ provocative art is as important for its content as it is for its stunning execution and unmatched technical prowess. Jon Eric Riis creates extraordinary works of woven silk and metallic thread with textured undulating surfaces of hand-stitched pearls, coral and glass beads. The meticulous works are supremely crafted, astonishing in visual effect and profound in concept. ___________________________________________

November 1 Meeting Announcement

NOTE! – if you haven’t been to a meeting in a few months, remember that we are now in room 1315 of the Activity Center, which is on the other —left —or north— side of the church at the front entrance. Room 1315 is the first room on your left once you enter the building.

November’s Program is “Beading with Davey”

Spice up your knitting with beads!

This month, Davey will be showing off how to spice up knitting by adding beadwork in your repertoire.

From beautiful knitted shawls, to simple crocheted or knitted beaded necklaces and bracelets, we will be covering it all!

The (Near) Future

Looking ahead a month, our December meeting will be our annual holiday party. In addition to bringing your favorite holiday snack to share, we also think it would be fun to bring your favorite holiday gift pattern to share as well!

Charity Items

If you have made items for our charity drive, be sure to bring them along.

See you at the meeting!

Directions and Meeting Info

We meet the first Tuesday night of every month at Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Rd, 28211 from 6-8 p.m. The first half hour is knitting and socializing, and we spend the rest of the time learning new things.

Thanks!

-Jorah Lavin, Guild Secretary
