Bring items to the monthly meetings and Chelsi Smith will collect and take to the designated organization.
The Charlotte Knitting Guild will be knitting or crocheting for two very exciting organizations this year:
The Cancer Resource Center at Carolinas Healthcare System’s Levine Cancer Institute (LCI), located on the main campus of Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The Cancer Resource Center’s goal is to deliver professional compassionate assistance to cancer patients, their caregivers, their families and the community. Resources include free wigs, hats and scarves, referrals to community and LCI services and programs, information on support groups, education, calendars of related events and computer access in the center.
Check out their link at http://www.carolinashealthcare.org/levine-cancer-institute-education or contact Barbara Myers, Resource Center Coordinator at 980-442-2000 or Barbara.firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Hats: small, medium and large seasonal hats are needed, cool summer yarns for spring and summer and warm soft yarns for fall and winter.
Scarves: all sizes
The Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster (LDHHS) is located in South Charlotte and is a new 10 bed facility for people at the end of life that cannot be cared for at home, but do not need or desire to be placed in a full scale medical facility. LDHHS opened this past January and needs extra help this year to meet the needs of its patients.
Woven, knitted and crocheted prayer shawls are given to each patient while they are at the house. These shawls are then passed on to the families as a remembrance in a special ceremony. The need is great! 4 dozen shawls a month have been needed.
Check out the website for Hospice at http://www.hpccr.org. You can see the Levine & Dickson Huntersville House on the website which is Southminster’s sister house in Huntersville.
Prayer Shawls: Rectangular shawls sized 16-24 inches wide by 48-60 inches long. Fringe is fine, but not necessary (some residents prefer no fringe)
Colors: Local College colors like UNC Chapel Hill, DUKE, UNC Charlotte and NC State are often requested. Pink for breast cancer, Purple for pancreatic cancer and Alzheimer’s are also favorites or whatever inspires you!
Suzanne Smith, the volunteer donation coordinator from LDHHS and Barbara Myers from the Cancer Resource Center will be our featured speakers at the November meeting
